How to read a card and understand its price

Number, expansion, rarity, versions and language: what each detail means and how it affects value.

  1. 01

    The number and the expansion

At the bottom of the card you will find its number within the expansion, like 094/203 (card 94 of 203), next to the expansion symbol. On Pokemarket you always see that number in the search and in the listing so you can identify the exact card.

  2. 02

Cards with a number above the total

Some cards have a number higher than the total (for example 215/203). They are usually special versions, often rarer and more valuable, that do not count in the expansion’s official total.

  3. 03

    Rarity

It is shown with a symbol next to the number: circle (common), diamond (uncommon) and star (rare), plus special rarities such as Holo Rare, Ultra Rare, Illustration Rare or Secret Rare. On Pokemarket rarity appears as a coloured tag: the more eye-catching, the more special the card.

  4. 04

    Versions

The same card can exist in several versions: normal, reverse holo (everything shines except the artwork), holo, first edition or promo. Their value can be very different, so always choose the exact version when you publish.

  5. 05

    Language and print

Language changes value and demand. Japanese, English and Spanish cards are not priced alike. Always state the real language of your card.

  6. 06

How the recommended price is worked out

When you publish we show a recommended price based on the average market price of that card and version. The history shows the evolution with the averages of the last 1, 7 and 30 days; if we do not have our own history for a card yet, the dashed line is an estimate.

  7. 07

    How to set your price

Start from the recommended one and adjust for condition and version. A price below half the recommended one asks for confirmation before publishing, to avoid mistakes. In an auction you may start lower on purpose.
